I think before you stress over practising your shading, it would be a good idea to experiment with colours and lighting a bit more. Also perspective. If you try using a much darker and bluer colour for the shadows and a lighter, pinker colour for the highlights, it will better bring out the shape of the character. Another thing I noticed about this particular picture is that the head and forearm look sunken behind the chest. You should really lower the waterline around the closer areas of the body like what you did with the wedge between the legs. I do really like the composition and idea, though. It's quite pretty. I do hope my advice is useful. With a little practise you'll make a wonderful artist.
